About

Johannes Bode, born in 1987 and based in Leipzig, works as a musician, producer, performing artist, educator and drumteacher. He studied Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Drums with Professor Heinrich Köbberling at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig, followed by a Master of Arts in Elementary Music and Dance Pedagogy. He is a songwriter, drummer and bass-player in different bands, sonically ranging from experimental Rock to Jazz and Contemporary Music. As a perfomance and dance-artist he explores new fields of movement in a wide spectrum of various styles. He recently embarked on a new artistic journey, delving into the realms of oil chalk, bringing his unique perspective as a musician, performer, and educator to the world of painting.

After starting out by playing drums as a teenager and taking part in weekly swimming competitions for more than 10 years Johannes Bode has constantly been working on expanding his language of sound and movement. Whether it is a sounddesigner and dancer in a contemporary dance piece, in a theater project or live on stage as a drummer – his projects are always driven by curiousness and the quest to find something new. How can the different ways of expression in music and performance be combined into new colours, new emotions, new spaces? How do different people, different experiences and different energies shape the aesthetics of a song or a dance? In all of his work an open mind and the sheer joy of working and interacting with other people are the fundamental elements that can be seen, heard and felt.
